Title: The Local Velocity of Rotation in the Galaxy
Source: Astron. Astrophys. 36, 327-332
Year: 1974
Abstract: The local velocity of rotation in the Galaxy is derived using Eggen's (1964) high velocity stars, resulting in 275+-20(m.e.) km/s. Because of the small number of stars which are responsible for the result, the fairly small formal error may not be considered as an approximation to an external error of such a determination. Nevertheless, very small values of the velocity of rotation (about 200 km/s) and extremely large values (exceeding 300 km/s) are extremely unlikely. We examine Fricke's (1949a,b) method to determine the local velocity of rotation and introduce modification.
