Abstract: | For main-sequence stars with B-V>+0.45 an obvious correlation exists between the ultraviolet excess and the deviation from the mean (MV,B-V) relation. The question is wether or not absolute magnitudes determined from this colour-luminosity relation can be significantly improved by addition of a linear term DELTA M = b delta(U-B). Coefficient b proves to be dependent on the photoelectric system and, furthermore, it is very sensitive to the accidential errors in the colour observations. For the 35 M dwarfs with U, B, V measured by Johnson the addition of DELTA M to the colour-luminosity relation diminishes the subsequent dispersion of the deviations by about 60 per cent. |
