Abstract: | Our investigation was carried out on the basis of the data in the Catalogue of Nearby Stars (Gliese, 1969). We are mainly concerned with stars within a distance of about 20 parsec. Therefore, in our sample there are no absolutely bright stars (MV<-1m), and only a few early-type main sequence stars and late-type giants. On the other hand, the positions in the color-magnitude diagram and the space velocities are very accurately known. The typical mean relative error of a resulting parallax is (DELTA pi)/pi=+/-0.14, leading to a mean error of DELTA M=+/-0.3m in the absolute magnitude. The typical mean error in one component of the space velocity is of the order of 3-4 km/sec. |
