Abstract: | A mean value of the constant of expansion of the Crab Nebula was derived for the epoch 1939, namely k=761a+-21a. This value leads to a improved position of the supernova in the year 1054. From this position, a genetic connection with the southern component of the central double star is improbable. An acceleration of the nebular material is indicated by the fact that the constant of expansion is 123a smaller than the age of the nebula. A quantitative treatment of the motion in the nebula is only possible for large initial radii. The roughly elliptic form of the nebula can be explained by the assumption of a rotational velocity of about 600 km/sec for the pre-supernova. |
