| Abstract: | The variations of the eccentricity and of the mean daily motion of asteroidal orbits in and close to the 3/1 commensurability are investigated. The calculations are based on the plane elliptic restricted three body problem averaged by Schubart's method. Orbits with 894''<n<900'' and e>=0.08 support the collision hypothesis about the origin of the gap at the 3/1 commensurability in the frequency distribution of the asteroids. |
