Astronomical bibliography (Astronomische Bibliographie):
'Astronomischer Jahresbericht'

The bibliography 'Astronomischer Jahresbericht' (AJB) aimed to present a comprehensive documentation of the literature concerning all aspects of astronomy, astrophysics, and their neighbouring fields. It was devoted to the recording, summarizing, and indexing of the relevant publications throughout the world. The German language is used for the summaries given in the AJB.

The AJB was published from 1899 until 1968. The more recent literature (from 1969 onwards) is recorded in the continuation of the AJB, the bibliography 'Astronomy and Astrophysics Abstracts'.

The AJB is a printed publication of the Astronomisches Rechen-Institut Heidelberg. The bibliography was sold by the Verlag Walter de Gruyter and Co., Berlin, but volumes of the AJB cannot be purchased anymore from this publishing company. Scientific libraries, observatories or astronomical institutes may ask the Astronomisches Rechen-Institut Heidelberg for obtaining copies of the AJB (usually against payment). However, most of the volumes are out-of-print and no longer available.

As soon as possible all the printed volumes of the AJB will be made available here in the ARIPRINT database as 'images', i.e. as GIF files. Those volumes of the AJB which are already included as GIF files in the ARIPPRINT, can be identified by the corresponding note ('GIF') in the 'List of volumes' given below.

The combined author index and a kind of subject index (Chapter titles of the AJB) of all the AJB volumes can already be searched on-line in the database ARIBIB of the Astronomisches Rechen-Institut in the 'index format'. The 'image format' of the ARIBIB provides then for most of the volumes a link to the corresponding page of the AJB in the ARIPRINT.

It is planned to make available in the ARIBIB a more complete on-line version of the AJB in the 'reference format', i.e. without the summaries of the papers. The realization of this project may take a long time.
